Yeah, I don’t really know what they’re going to call the posts over on Meta’s new Twitter alternative, Threads, but maybe we can have some fun with that.
Just over 5 million new sign ups in their first five hours (with me as one of them), and they’re off and running!
I really missed old Twitter. Glad to have what looks like what will be a viable alternative. A lot of people have been waiting around for Bluesky from Twitter’s old sugar daddy, Jack, but he’s plodding along, hemming and hawing, letting only a handful of elites through the door via invitation only. Meanwhile (and say what you will about Zuckerberg), Meta was on top of their ish, got it done, and then said, “Ya’ll come!” No roped off area, no red carpet, no waiting list. Just get your butt in here already!
I can appreciate that.
I hope it lives up to all our ideals and expectations, that it will be a place where ideas are exchanged without cowardly, vulgar cyber-bullying, and without a need for much admin oversight. It might be a pie in the sky wish, but I hope for maturity and common decency every day, so why stop now?
I just know in the old days of Twitter, I was able to reach out to and follow many amazing people. When it began to crumble, well, it fell apart fast.
So, let us christen the good ship Threads with only the good champagne (must be French! Anything else is just sparkling wine).

Providing this handy-dandy QR code. Right now, it’s only available on your phone. Hoping to see accessibility soon via my laptop as well. Also says they’ll soon integrate into the Fediverse. That should really open things up!
