Happy Monday, Readers.
It's melting down in here south Texas as the historic heatwave continues. Clouds gathered tonight (second night in a row) and the skies grew dark. Thunder rumbled. I looked up in anticipation, and...nothing. Bubkiss. Dry as the desert. Sweltering, hellish heat continues.
How disappointing. But I hear we'll have two days of 10% chance of rain by the end of the week. Crossing fingers that I live in the 10% area. Geez, that overhead high needs to move on already!
Meanwhile, the kitties can't go out on the patio (because they'd instantly combust and burnt fur is not a pleasant smell). Inside, they remain, with the air conditioning and all their toys, which the new baby, Taavi, is quite enjoying. My two old lady kitties, Maggie and Pip, can't be bothered, although Maggie is keeping a close eye on her baby cousin, growling and hissing now and again to keep him in line. I don't think he's noticed between zoomies, tackles, thumps, and leaps. Certainly, he cannot be bothered. He has important kitten things to do.
I usually don't get any snuggles until late in the evening, round about the time I'm ready to write, and my little nephew kitty (as mentioned before, he's my sister's new fur baby) climbs up on my chest and curls up under my chin as I sit in my comfy recliner. I've learned to work around him while he snores in my ear and stretches out halfway over my shoulder.
Sometimes, he remains awake and plays with my hair or tries to give me Swiss Kitty Massage on my face.
I can see the question in his eyes then.
"Auntie, how come you don't have fur all over (thank goodness for that!), and where are your whiskers, huh?"
That's when the awkward explanation begins...
"Well, sweetie, there's a reason auntie doesn't want to smell your butt..."
It’s all about love and humor and adjusting on the fly around here. We do our best. It’s all anyone can do.
Wishing you a wonderful and productive week. Stay hydrated and safe. See ya soon.
