Ringing the bell, and a kiss…
Breakfast went off without a hitch. Beau enjoyed the fare, even remarking on Cara’s cooking skills.
“That was actually pretty good. Thank you.” He sat back, stretching his jean-clad legs under the table.
“You sound surprised,” she said.
“I am. After the falling, bad timing, and bouncing off the walls, I wasn’t sure you could pour milk into a bowl much less cook eggs and bacon. I had the fire department on speed dial.”
“You did not!” Cara’s face flushed.
Beau cracked a small smile. “Maybe not.”
She saw the smirk, and exhaled, realizing he was joking. “That’s not funny.”
“Yeah, it was, just a little.” He aimed his face in her direction, focusing the dark sunglasses at her. “You up for a drive?”
Cara picked up his plate. “Sure. Where do you need to go?” She turned to rinse it off in the sink before placing it in the dishwasher.
“Anywhere. I need to get out. How well do you know the area?”
She was surprised. “I’ve lived here all my life.”
“Good. Finish up and grab your coat.” Beau stood up. “I’ll be right back.” He turned and headed towards the stairs.
“Need help?” She took three quick steps in his direction, reaching his side.
With unerring accuracy, Beau reached down and placed a hand on her shoulder. Cara froze, feeling a warm jolt run through her.
“No.” He stepped away, dropping his hand. He started to walk away, and then paused. “Thanks for asking.” He sounded almost surprised by his own words.
Cara still stood in the same spot, watching him disappear around the corner. She wrapped her arms around her middle, confusion clouding her brown eyes. She didn’t know what to make of Beau Hamilton. His anger she understood. It didn’t really have anything to do with her at all. He was simply frustrated by his blindness, but the rudeness, and the running hot and cold, that was something else altogether. She got along with everyone usually. This was the first time she’d run into someone like him, and she had no idea what to do. Her lack of experience with men was showing. The only thing she could think to do was try harder. He’d asked for her help in getting him out of the house, so she planned to make it a good outing.
There was only one place in all of Moose Ridge that could make that happen. Bell Island.
